As a newborn photographer, I often hear from parents who are hesitant to get in the photos with their newborn baby. They may feel self-conscious about their postpartum bodies or worry that they won’t look their best. However, I strongly encourage parents to get into the photos with their newborn baby, and here’s why.
First and foremost, these photos capture a special moment in time that you will cherish for years to come. Your newborn baby is only this tiny and new for a short period, and having photos to look back on will be priceless. When you’re flipping through these photos years down the road, you’ll want to see yourself holding and cuddling your baby, not just photos of your baby alone.
Another reason to get in the photos is that your baby will appreciate them when they grow up. They will love to see photos of themselves with their parents when they were so little. These photos will become family heirlooms that can be passed down through generations.
It’s also important to remember that you just brought a new life into the world, and that is an amazing accomplishment. Your postpartum body is a beautiful and powerful thing, and it deserves to be celebrated. These photos can help you see the beauty in your body during this special time.
As a body positive advocate, I believe that all bodies are beautiful and worthy of being captured in photos. No matter your size, shape, or any physical changes you may be experiencing postpartum, you deserve to feel confident and beautiful in your own skin. And by getting in the photos with your newborn baby, you are setting a positive example for them and showing them that all bodies are beautiful.
In my experience as a newborn photographer, I’ve found that parents who get in the photos with their newborn baby end up loving the results. They often tell me how grateful they are that they decided to get in the photos and how much they cherish them. So, if you’re hesitant about getting in the photos with your newborn baby, I encourage you to embrace your body and the special moment in time that these photos will capture.
