Aeto’s Arts –Cambridge Ontario Newborn Photographer
1. Location
To make sure everyone is comfortable, we have comfortable furniture and drinks and snacks available in the studio. Hot water to warm bottles is always available just ask me and I will be happy to help. You might be panicking already. But don’t worry! We have everything onsite to make sure your session runs as seamlessly as possible. Plus this way you don’t have to worry about tidying up or doing the dishes. We have tons of adorable set pieces and props so once you arrive here you can just relax and enjoy. As a mom of 4 I know that you haven’t had any time for yourself since baby came on the scene. Aeto’s Arts is a Newborn Photographer located in a quiet area of Cambridge Ontario.
2. Temperature
Naked babies get cold. One of the more important tips for a successful newborn photo session is keeping the baby warm. We try to keep the temperature in the studio at a comfortable 80 degrees so although you may find it warm, your baby wont get a chill. Also, The warmer temperature will hopefully help your newborn stay asleep and happy.
Speaking of naked babes, put the diaper on more loosely if you are interested in having cute newborn photos without a diaper. This will eliminate any annoying diaper lines and the need for retouching later.
3. Feeding & Breaks
Newborns will need feeding breaks throughout the photo session, especially if they are a little fussy and upset. A quick meal paired with some cuddling and your sweet baby will be camera ready again! Feeding times also allow us to capture intimate nursing moments between mommy and baby, if you are comfortable and would like that.
It is helpful if you feed your baby before your photos session starts but after you have arrived here so they will be ready to sleep. Warm milk equals a happy, baby! Hungry babies wake up often and crying which makes the session stressful for all of us.
Don’t worry I keep extra wipes, blankets, and trash bags nearby for quick cleanups. You only need to provide diapers and wipes for diaper changes.Naked babies do tend to have more accidents, so it’s a good idea to be ready for it to happen. Just remember to be patient and don’t get embarrassed or frustrated when things go wrong. Its a good idea to bring a change of clothes for Mom and Dad too (just in case). Also do not worry, I’m a mom its not the first or last time a baby has made a mess of my outfit.
4. Props & Wardrobe
Everything is welcome! Just keep in mind that we might not be able to get to all your items. Also, you are not required to provide any props, we have TONS.
Here are some common items that parents like to include: wedding rings, blankets or quilts with significant meaning, favourite stuffed animals and toys, and family heirlooms as well as culturally significant items. Please try to inform me before the session if you will be bringing something along. This gives me to the most time to get the creative juices flowing.
5. Family Photos & Pet Appearances
Yes, your new baby is the star of the photo session, but that doesn’t mean mom and dad can’t jump in a couple photos, too. Don’t forget about the furry family members too! Friendly dogs are always welcome to accompany their family to the session.
If you have other children, remind them to try to stay calm and quiet when they are not in the photos to keep the newborn happy. Explain to the siblings ahead of time what is expected of them during the photo session. Instead of bribing with candy and toys, use positive reinforcement and prep them by saying “Mommy and Daddy are excited about taking photos with you and the baby.” Consider bringing an ipad or device where they can be entertained. I do have snacks and drinks available and various toys for younger children.
Make sure someone always has a hold on the pets during the photo session. Animals can change emotion quickly and we want everyone to stay safe and happy while we capture adorable best friend photos.
Be vocal about any pain (like from a C-section) so we can better assist you and never be embarrassed about saying too much.
6. What to Wear
As a newborn photographer I suggest you try to keep your clothing simple, without busy patterns and logos. Soft, neutral fabrics are flattering and don’t distract from what the baby is or isn’t wearing. A neutral tank top or nice fitting top can be the perfect wardrobe choice to showcase your beautiful little one. Consider removing hats and large distracting watches.
6. Stay Patient
Always remember that you know your newborn better than we do so please don’t hesitate to bring up any concerns or suggestions. But do stay patient. Babies can sense when their parents are becoming upset or frustrated. Crying, inability to soundly sleep, bathroom breaks, and the need for more feeding are all normal things during a newborn photography session.
